What kind of patients are admitted into AVRIL? |
| |
All patients suffering from a psychiatric disorder are admitted into AVRIL, where hospitalization is short, averaging 15-18 days. |
| |
When is a psychiatric patient admitted into a center? |
| |
Hospitalization of a psychiatric patient is a decision adopted by a psychiatrist when the patient poses a risk to himself or to others or when hospitalization is necessary to ensure treatment continuity.
Which are the requirements for psychiatric
hospitalization?
| |
If the patient is covered by prepaid medical services with one of the health care providers affiliated with us, hospitalization is only approved after the attending physician belonging to such health care organization has evaluated the patient and ordered hospitalization in a psychiatric institution.
For private patients hospitalization may be ordered by the physician on duty at our Center, after the patient has been evaluated.
Can a patient be admitted into a center against his will? |
| |
The decision
to hospitalize a patient can be voluntary or the result
of an emergency situation (when a patient poses a risk
to himself or to others). In both cases, hospitalization
must be prescribed in a hospitalization order.
What is in-patient treatment like?
| |
Our staff is committed to making short-term psychiatric hospitalization effective. From the moment a patient is admitted into our center, we work closely with both the patient and his family. Our interdisciplinary approach includes workshops, sports activities and an appropriate nutritional program, and is designed to overcome the acute situation that made hospitalization necessary and plan both in-patient and post-hospitalization treatment.

How are addictions treated?
| |
Patients who are addicted to substances (hard drugs, alcohol, and psychoactive drugs, among other substances) and who show social compulsive behavior (compulsive gambling) are managed with individualized treatment based on the patient’s needs from the clinical, nutritional, toxicological, psychiatric, psychopathological, family, social and legal aspects.
After the disintoxication period, an appropriate therapy to be provided in the after-discharge stage of treatment is planned.

When is a psychiatric patient
referred to the Day Center? |
| |
Patients
are referred to the Day Center when individualized treatment
or intensive supervision exceeding the care that may be
provided in outpatient consulting rooms is required (due
to the characteristics of the prescribed treatment or
those regarding the patient or his family).
What is treatment like at the Day Center? |
| |
Treatment
at the Day Center starts with an admission interview,
in which the patient’s psychiatric, psychological, clinical
and nutritional needs are evaluated.
The Day Center is open from Monday through Saturday, from
10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. It offers psychiatric and psychological
services, workshops (literary workshop, handicraft art
workshop, music therapy, recreation, sports activities
and creative movement), on-duty psychiatric medical and
nursing staff and lunch and afternoon snack according
to the patient’s nutritional requirements.
